Preaching as Story
Often, sermons begin with a short story that speaks generally to the topic at hand that is found in the text as it relates to the theme (or a title) and points. People come to expect a pattern of sermon that follows a general order of:
story ->Exegesis -> story/illustration/application -> Exegesis -> application (repeated until sermon is done).
When this is the pattern people tend to tune out when it comes to the exegesis. Therefore, a sermon that is/ has the quality of 'story' from beginning to end will resonate better than a sermon that only has bits of story.
